Q: What is the cost for field trips, Museum on the Move and Traveling Trunks? A: All students, teachers and chaperones from Fredericksburg City participating in an education program with the Museum are free of charge. Students from surrounding counties and districts are $3.00 per student for Museum field trips and $125.00 per grade level for Museum on the Move outreach programs. One adult chaperone per ten students is admitted at no charge. Traveling Trunks can be rented for $15.00.
Q: How many chaperones are required for a field trip?
A: The Museum requires students be accompanied by supervising adults with the minimum ratio of 1:10 for ages 7 -13, and 1:20 for ages 13-18. Students should remain in their groups with the accompanying adults. Chaperones are asked to respect Museum Policies and help enforce them among the students. One adult chaperone per ten students is admitted at no charge. Each additional adult is $5.50.
Q: How much time should be allotted for a field trip or a Museum on the Move program?
A: Please allow 1-2 hours per field trip. The education department is able to adjust this time if necessary. When scheduling a program, please let us know of any time constraints.
Q: Where should we enter the Museum?
A: Unless otherwise directed by education staff, please enter the Museum through the main entrance of the Catherine W. Jones McKann Center, 1001 Princess Anne Street.
Q: Is there a place for students to have lunch?
A: Market Square is a wonderful outdoor venue for students to picnic in. Unfortunately, the Museum does not currently have an indoor venue for lunches. In the event of inclement weather, please plan on having lunches on the bus. However, packed lunches can be stored in a designated area inside the Museum.
Q: Is there a specific location for the bus to park?
A: One bus parking space, located in front of Historic Town Hall on William Street, is reserved for buses.
Q: What happens in the event of an emergency while my students are in the Museum?
A: Museum staff is trained to deal with emergencies. Emergency signal are communicated by alarms and an intercom system. Telephones are available in the Learning Center, Museum Shop, and at the front desk for emergency use.
